Action > RespS

Evaluation of a response spectrum for earthquake analysis. The relevant response spectrum must be defined as variable (table) and the  considered natural modes must have been calculated.

SettingDescription
Action Code of the selected Action. It is possible to switch to another action without leaving and re-entering the input function.
Action will be skipped (Option) The action will be skipped in the calculation process if the option is selected.
Input-1 > Number of SEISMIC Number of the seismic event for evaluating the structural response. "New" option allows a quick creation of new Earthquake load.
Input-2 > ALL or ACTIVE The calculation can be done for all or only for active elements.
Input-2 > RM-Set

Name of RM-Set (see properties) that specifies the modes to be considered in superposition. If no RM-Set is specified, all modes will be superposed. Content of RM-Set are series of mode numbers e.g.:

MODE 2 10 1

(Modes 2, … , 10 will be superposed)

Input-3 > (Damping table name) Name of the table (variable) describing the relationship between the no. or frequency of the considered mode and the effective modal damping ratio.
Input-3 > (Type of the damping dependency)
  • Mode: the effective damping ratio depends on the no. of the considered mode
  • Frequency: the effective damping ratio depends on the natural frequency  (in this case, the variable can also be an expression)
  • Elements: the damping ratio depends on structural parts (definition of the  damping ratios in the element table). Dependent on the participation of the different structural part in the natural mode, a relevant damping for this mode is calculated.
Note: Input-3 is optional and related to the case, that different response spectra shall be used for different effective damping ratios. The different response spectra are in this case assigned to the respective seismic event, together with the corresponding damping ratio. The program evaluates the  damping table and calculates the relevant damping ratio for the considered mode. The actual spectral value is calculated by interpolating between the spectral values  of the defined response spectra.
Input-3 > (Xsimin) Lower bound for modal damping ratio [0,1]. It is applicable only with a given damping table.
Output-1 > Output File (*.sup) The name of the superposition file, where the results shall be stored. Must be initialized before (action SupInit)
List File Name of list file, where the data of the response calculation will be listed. If the default '*' is accepted, the name of the file will be automatically generated. eg. "resps0001" + ".lst" = resps0001.lst for seismic no.1.

If the field remains empty, no list file will be created
